Client Spotlights

Community & Advocacy - The Irish Council for Civil Liberties

UCS began a transformational programme for this Irish advocacy group incorporating fundraising and major changes in governance. First the consultancy secured ICCL's future by helping it raise a multi-million euro core funding grant from a charitable trust and then supported it in its re-invention as a sustainable fundraising body.

Community & Older People - Age Concern, Leeds

The vision was to create a new city centre "one-stop-shop" for all Age Concern services locally. To do that hinged on being able to raise sufficient capital funds. UCS created a viable fundraising strategy for this charity which, locally, did not have a track record or expertise in fundraising. The consultancy has directly managed grant seeking and led the major gift programme.

Community & Relationships - DVIRP, Leicester

DVIRP is small charity with a massive impact helping victims of domestic violence. It faced a serious financial challenge which threatened its survival. UCS Consultants created a strategy for sustainability and directly raised a major core grant which secured the future of the charity for three years whilst DVIRP develops a sustainable fundraising operation.

Heritage & Faith - Lincoln Cathedral

With a £20 million repair bill over the next few years, the Cathedral needs to develop its fundraising quickly and safely. UCS Consultants has helped the Cathedral to create a new fundraising department and to directly support major initiatives such as fundraising in the USA, a Magna Carta campaign and the Cathedral's legacy fundraising.

Community & Health - Macmillan Cancer Relief

UCS has worked on a range of consultancy projects for Macmillan Cancer Relief across the North of England. Fundraising appraisals or fundraising development plans have been prepared for multi-million pound projects proposed in Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Barrow, Carlisle, Hull and Macclesfield. Clear, realistic reports have enabled the charity to make sensible decisions about service developments in these areas.

Hospitals & Health - The North's Gold Standard Hospital Appeal: Bradford Hospitals NHS Trust

The campaign to raise £1 million for an MRI Scanner in Bradford was a definitive community campaign within a stressed northern city. A classic campaign with a £250,000 lead donation, dynamic media partner offering 360 significant news stories in 305 publishing days, an inspiring community campaign and passionate support from the local ethnic minority communities. Classic outcomes were achieved of full funding of a state of the art scanner, dramatically increased public ownership & participation and high quality public relations for the hospital. This is now considered to be the Gold Standard Campaign model for this kind of campaign.

Community & Faith - Sustainable Regeneration: St Mary's Church Sheffield

A trailblazing regeneration project focused on one of Sheffield's most deprived areas. £2.65 million was raised to turn a run down inner city church into a combined church, community centre and conference facility. A cocktail of statutory, EU, trust, business and big gift fundraising has enabled one of the most startling transformations imaginable with the new St Mary's offering wonderful community facilities, an inspiring place of worship and a set of conference and trading income streams that promise full long term financial sustainability.

Community & Environment - Lincolnshire Agricultural Society

Lincolnshire Agricultural Society wanted to develop a green education and exemplar building on their Showground site. UCS, in partnership with specialist environmental associates, created a fundraising campaign which successfully raised the funds for this ground breaking green building which also will enable the Society to be fully sustainable in the future.

Heritage & Faith - Building the Future: St James' Church

Over eight years, the consultancy has been employed three times to develop three phases of development linked to St James' Church and Square. Two campaign phases in the 1990s resulted in a major church restoration and the complete transformation of St James' Square. The consultancy has recently successfully raised funds to enable the creation of the St James' Centre which provides community space using a cocktail of grants, big gift and other funding.

Community & Health - Rotherham Hospice

In 2007 UCS helped the Hospice completely reorganise its fundraising operation and build its income substantially within 12 months. The Hospice asked UCS back in 2009 to directly manage a £1 million+ capital fundraising campaign which will enable the Hospice to expand its services dramatically.
